George at BFW

Zoe and I headed to the Ulster Museum last night in the terrible cold and wind to look at George at Asda's Spring/summer collection as part of Belfast Fashion Week (bless Zoe, she has become my right hand woman lately and so supportive of my new adventures). The clothes on show could really not have been in any more contrast to the weather outside, but it was nice to see what we should wear if summer ever arrives.

The show had 5 main themes: sports luxe, beachwear, pretty, formal and festival. Below are my favourite outfits from the evening.

Sports Luxe - especially love the trainers.

Beachwear

Formal wear  & Pretty - these dresses were £18!!

Festival - we all need a pair of the cute wellies.

The colours throughout all of the themes were bright and fresh. Even if bright colours are not normally your thing, I think everyone could pick individual pieces and incorporate them to make any outfit more on trend, and for very low prices.
Wedge trainers - £18

This jumper is the perfect way to brighten up any outfit at any age - £14

The outfits last night were wonderfully put together and it was a great way to showcase how good George at Asda's clothes really are. With such nice clothes available at such reasonable prices, it is a wonder that there is an idea that to have style you need to have money. Surely those on lower incomes should have no problem having a sense of style with these clothes available.

I thought I would investigate whilst I was in Asda doing my shopping this morning ( the double life of a mummy blogger). I went straight to the clothes section to see if I could find any of the pieces I saw last night. I found some of them, but truth be told I struggled to pick them out amongst the rails of badly laid out clothes and I think I have found the problem.

Obviously no one can expect the clothes to look the same on the rack as they do on a gorgeous 6ft thin model. However, when items are just grouped loosely according to style and with no real co-ordination, it makes it very difficult for someone with no idea of style to figure out what way it's going to look best. This means that a lot of people put things together very wrong and make the clothes look awful. When you walk into a more mainstream high street shop like Topshop, the clothes are grouped according to what will look well together which makes shopping really easy for fashion newbies like me. Asda had things paired really badly and none of the pieces worn together last night were anywhere near each other in the store I visited. What I would recommend is George's website. I had a good browse and they have even more gorgeous things online, and their site is very easily navigated.

Images of the store I visited today.
The bikinis were well displayed & I love the denim shirt.
From catwalk to store..
I suppose I should mention what I wore last night, especially since I got style spotted by the Belfast Telegraph. Oh yes, the unfashionable frumpy mamma that started this blog little over a month ago got picked out and interviewed about what she was wearing!! For someone like me, this is quite an achievement and I was so chuffed that I could barely think to answer the questions I was being asked.

Jacket - Topshop £55
Top - H&M £12
Skirt - River Island £20
Shoes - Next £40
It just goes to show that when you think about what you wear, it does pay off and you don't need to be skinny to be on trend. The skater skirt with braces (and the clutch bag that I don't have in the pic) was a last minute purchase from River Island 10 minutes before getting ready. I had another black skater skirt to wear from Topshop, but the braces added a bit of something extra, whilst the material was thicker which made the skirt sit better on my hips. Looks like it paid off and can't wait to see the professional photos, as well as the video that Zoe and I were made take part in (cringe is all I can say).

So all in all, George at Belfast Fashion Week was a nice way to lose my fashion show virginity. It was a lovely event, in a fantastic setting with some lovely clothes as well. Oh and I almost forgot, there were some nice male swimwear models to look at too...here's a wee treat for you to enjoy!
